LOCAL AND REGIONAL HISTORY

LOCAL AND REGIONAL HISTORY

We are passionate about publishing exceptional personal and local history books. We believe history is an important resource for the future and we will be pleased to consider your submission whether you are an academic in the field or writing from the point of view of your personal experiences.

We’re unusual because we accept local and regional histories, and personal memoir. These stories have a vital contribution to make to our wider understanding of the past.

You may be a community group trying to record your village memories in a meaningful way for generations to come. Or you may be a historian wishing to publish recent discoveries in your area. Whether your passion is social or local history, and whether you are an individual author or an organisation, we share your interest and will be happy to hear from you.

How it works

We’re a publisher, so we undertake all layout and design work here – we’ll ask you to provide us with the text and images in digital or physical form. We have image scanning facilities in-house so we can work with original photographs. All our titles undergo a thorough editing and proof reading stage, including local history books. We will work with you to give your manuscript that final level of polish and to ensure your research is presented to your readers as a lasting treasure.

We are passionate about history. We publish on a collaborative basis, in that the author or community group shares some of the costs of getting their book into print. But in all other ways we are comparable to mainstream publishing, particularly in how we present and distribute our titles. We’ve found that this is the best way of ensuring that our authors are able to take an active part in the publishing process while also moving forwards with the confidence that comes from knowing you have a publisher representing your work. We’re definitely not a one-size-fits-all publisher! If you think this may be the route into print you are looking for, please get in touch.

We routinely publish in paperback for the UK distribution network so that bookshops and online retailers can access your book easily, and also to ebook.

We pay excellent royalties and we like to give plenty of advice about marketing and post-publishing support.

Our main editor actually has an archaeological background, so we can even produce plans and drawings in-house. We have plenty of experience of producing local history books and personal histories which preserve a vital record of the past in print.
